The Kantha Mala

Advance Your Japa with Kantha Mala.

The Kantha Mala

The Kantha Mala

Advance Your Japa with Kantha Mala.

What Is A Kantha Mala?

The Kantha Mala is a singular instrument of meditative practice. Unlike the Japa Mala, used for mantra counting, the Kantha Mala is worn at the kantha - from the throat to the heart; resting where speech begins and where the atman is said to reside.

It has 33 beads and is composed entirely of Collector or Super Collector grade beads which are the largest available, each selected individually. Worn during deep meditation, its presence helps you remain connected to your sankalpa and creates a clear transition from everyday activity into sacred practice.

Why Is It Worn Around the Throat?

A rudraksha kantha mala is suited to anyone who practices daily meditation or mantra recitation and wants to deepen their focus and concentration during practice. It is used by beginners establishing a meditation routine and by advanced practitioners engaging in dedicated planetary or deity sadhana. Kantha Malas are available in 3 Mukhi through 7 Mukhi Rudraksha - each addressing a specific deity and planet - allowing the practitioner to choose based on their personal sadhana focus.

The 5 Mukhi Kantha Mala is the most universally recommended starting point, as it activates Jupiter (Brihaspati) and higher spiritual wisdom with no astrological restrictions. There are no gender, age, or belief-system restrictions for wearing a Kantha Mala.
The kantha mala is specifically designed to enhance focus and concentration during meditation - its primary function in the Vedic tradition. Unlike a Japa Mala (used to count mantra repetitions) or a Siddha Mala (worn continuously for planetary alignment), the Kantha Mala creates the specific meditative field for deity and planetary activation.

By using 32+1 or 54+1 of the largest available beads of a single Mukhi, the Kantha Mala provides concentrated, undiluted contact with one deity's energy during practice. Meditating with a 3 Mukhi Kantha Mala removes fear and anxiety; a 5 Mukhi Kantha Mala activates higher wisdom and spiritual growth; a 6 Mukhi Kantha Mala activates Lord Kartikeya's courage and material-spiritual balance. Each Mukhi produces its specific meditative outcome.
These are two distinct tools with different functions. A Kantha Mala uses 32+1 or 54+1 of the largest (collector or super collector) Nepali Rudraksha of a single Mukhi - it is worn around the throat (Kantha area, aligned with the Vishuddha Chakra) specifically for meditation and deity invocation.

A Japa Mala uses 108+1 beads of Indonesian Rudraksha (for comfort during extended counting) with a Nepali Guru bead - it is a counting tool for mantra repetition. The Kantha Mala's large Nepali beads maximize skin contact and energetic resonance during meditation; the Japa Mala prioritizes ease of use during extended Japa. Both are used in the same practice session - the Kantha Mala worn on the body, the Japa Mala used in the hands.
The correct kantha mala depends on your primary sadhana focus. The book confirms: 3 Mukhi (Agni/Mars) - for removing fear, anxiety, and karmic purification; 4 Mukhi (Brahma/Mercury) - for creativity, learning, and communication; 5 Mukhi (Kalagni Rudra/Jupiter) - universal starting point, higher wisdom, spiritual growth; 6 Mukhi (Kartikeya/Venus) - courage, material-spiritual balance; 7 Mukhi (Sapta Matrikas + Mahalakshmi/Saturn) - wealth activation and Saturn sadhana. The 5 Mukhi Kantha Mala is the most recommended for beginners. The Gaurishankar Kantha Mala (33 beads) is used specifically by practitioners of Ardhanarishvara Sadhana. If uncertain, a senior consultation before selecting the Mukhi is advisable.
Yes - the rudraksha kantha mala combines freely with all other Rudraksha. The most common pairing is wearing a Kantha Mala during meditation alongside a Siddha Mala worn throughout the day. The Kantha Mala provides the specific concentrated Mukhi energy for focused practice; the Siddha Mala provides comprehensive planetary alignment for daily life. They serve different functions and complement each other directly.

For those beginning their Rudraksha journey who are not yet wearing a Siddha Mala, a Kantha Mala is an excellent entry point - it is the single-Mukhi, meditation-focused alternative that provides the dedicated planetary energy of that Mukhi in its most concentrated form.
Every rudraksha kantha mala from Nepa Rudraksha is strung exclusively with Nepali Rudraksha sourced from Arun Valley, Nepal - no Indonesian beads are used in any Kantha Mala. The defining characteristic of an authentic Kantha Mala is the size of its beads: only collector or super collector grade Nepali Rudraksha (the largest naturally occurring size category) are used. Each bead undergoes X-ray certification to confirm natural Mukhi compartment structure before selection.

A+ Grade criteria - fully symmetrical, naturally formed Mukhi lines - apply across all beads in every Kantha Mala. Beads below collector size are not included. Every completed Kantha Mala is energised at Pashupatinath Temple through Vedic Prana Pratishtha ritual. Three generations of family expertise since 1973 back every piece.
The mantra is determined by the Mukhi of your Kantha Mala. (Om Kram Kreem Kroum Sah Bhaumaya Namah).

All mantras should be chanted 11, 16, 33, or 108 times daily while wearing the Kantha Mala during practice. A separate Japa Mala (108+1 beads) is used alongside to keep count.
