Rudraksha Mantras: A Practical Reference for Wearing and Japa

Rudraksha Mantras

Each Mukhi Rudraksha has its own Beej Mantra, traditionally used as part of Rudraksha Dharana and daily Sadhana. This guide brings those mantras together in one place so a wearer can easily identify the mantra traditionally associated with their Rudraksha and understand how it is practised.

In the Nepa Rudraksha framework, Om Namah Shivaya is chanted during the initial Dharana process before wearing the Rudraksha. After wearing, the practitioner may continue with the Beej Mantra corresponding to the Mukhi being worn. For a mala containing several Mukhi, the mantra of the highest Mukhi or Guru bead may also be used according to the practice being followed.

The mantras below should therefore be understood as part of a traditional Rudraksha and Mantra Sadhana practice, not as formulas that guarantee a particular material, medical or astrological result.

What Is a Rudraksha Beej Mantra? - The Direct Answer

Beej means “seed.”

A Beej Mantra is a short sacred mantra used as a concentrated form of a deity or spiritual principle.

Within the Rudraksha tradition, the Beej Mantra is identified according to the Mukhi. The book explains that every Mukhi has a Beej Mantra, and that the same Beej Mantra may sometimes occur with more than one Mukhi.

So there is no single mantra that replaces all Mukhi-specific practices.

The structure is:

Rudraksha → Mukhi → Deity / Graha → Beej Mantra → Sadhana

Which Rudraksha Mantra Should You Chant?

There are three useful levels to understand.

Om Namah Shivaya

This is the foundational Shiva mantra and is used during Rudraksha Dharana.
If you are unsure where to begin, start here.

Mukhi-Specific Beej Mantra

Once you know your Rudraksha Mukhi, use the Beej Mantra associated with that bead.

For example:

  • 5 Mukhi → Om Hrim Namah
  • 7 Mukhi → Om Hoom Namah
  • 9 Mukhi → Om Hreem Hoom Namah

Graha or Deity Mantra

If your Rudraksha practice is specifically connected with Vedic astrology or a deity Sadhana, you may additionally practise the corresponding mantra.

For example, someone wearing 5 Mukhi in a Brihaspati-focused Sadhana may also practise the Guru mantra.

The canonical Rudraksha framework explicitly permits the wearer to practise both the Mukhi Beej Mantra and the corresponding planetary mantra.

How to Chant Rudraksha Mantra - The Complete Framework

When to chant:

The knowledge book recommends morning as the primary Beej Mantra practice window - ideally within the Brahma Muhurat (approximately 4:24–5:12 AM) or during the daily Amrit Kaal window confirmed through the Nepa App Panchanga. The morning window is when the mind is most receptive, the nervous system most settled, and the planetary energies most concentrated for mantra absorption.

On a day-to-day basis

  • Wake up, purify body and mind
  • Hold or wear the Rudraksha before beginning
  • Chant the Beej Mantra - 11, 16, 33, or 108 times
  • It is recommended to chant the Beej Mantra every time you remove and rewear your Rudraksha throughout the day

How Many Times Should You Chant the Rudraksha Mantra?

The knowledge book provides 4 valid daily counts - choose one and maintain it consistently:

Count Practice Level Context
11 times Beginner / daily minimum Most accessible - 60–90 seconds
16 times Intermediate Traditional auspicious count
33 times Intermediate-advanced One round of 33 - Ekadasha Rudra
108 times Advanced / full Japa round One complete Japa Mala round

What to wear during chanting:

Always wear the Rudraksha when chanting its Beej Mantra - without exception. The mantra's vibrational activation and the Rudraksha's electromagnetic skin contact work simultaneously - removing the bead during mantra practice eliminates one half of the compound activation.

Counting on Japa Mala:

For 108-repetition practice, use a Rudraksha Japa Mala (108+1 beads) to count - holding each bead between thumb and middle finger, rotating one bead per repetition. This keeps the mind on the mantra rather than the count. The +1 Guru bead marks the end of one complete round and the beginning of the next.

Should You Wear the Rudraksha While Chanting?

Yes. The book consistently recommends practising the Beej Mantra while wearing the corresponding Rudraksha.

This instruction appears throughout the individual Mukhi sections and again in the Dharana procedure. This is a traditional Sadhana instruction.

Do You Need Guru Initiation to Chant a Rudraksha Beej Mantra?

According to the framework in Transform Your Life with Rudraksha, wearing the Rudraksha gives the wearer permission to practise:

the Beej Mantra of that Mukhi

and

the planetary mantra represented by that Rudraksha.

  • The book states this directly in the individual Mukhi guidance.
  • That makes basic Rudraksha mantra Sadhana accessible to the wearer.

Advanced Tantric practices are a separate matter and should not be assumed to follow the same rule simply because they contain a Beej syllable.

Beej Mantra vs Planet Mantra: What Is the Difference?

Consider the 5 Mukhi Rudraksha.

Its Beej Mantra is:

Om Hrim Namah

The same Rudraksha is associated with Brihaspati, whose planetary mantra in the book is:

Om Gram Greem Graum Sah Gurave Namah

  • The Beej Mantra belongs directly to the Rudraksha practice.
  • The Graha mantra belongs to the corresponding planetary Sadhana.
  • You can practise only the Beej Mantra for a simple Rudraksha routine.
  • If your practice specifically involves Jyotisha or Brihaspati Sadhana, both may be used.
  • You do not need to make a beginner's practice unnecessarily complicated.

Conclusion

Rudraksha mantra practice does not need to be complicated. Start with the Rudraksha you actually wear.

  • Know its Mukhi.
  • Learn its Beej Mantra.
  • Chant while wearing the Rudraksha.

During the initial forty-day Dharana period, establish a disciplined practice.

And if your Sadhana later becomes specifically planetary, deity-focused or more advanced, add the corresponding mantra with proper understanding.

The important progression is simple:

Wear → Sankalpa → Mantra → Consistency.

Not:

more mantras → more activation → faster results.

A mala energised with intention carries the mantra further, which is why we consecrate every Nepa Rudraksha bead before it reaches you, not after.

Om Namah Shivaya. 🙏
